Dear Yarders,
It’s a new year, and I am excited to welcome you to 2023, our Year of Instruction in the Academy.
One of the things I heard continually as we built on the curriculum of the year was "instructions," not "opinions."
God showed me an illustration of how those who fly a plane only follow instructions and not opinions, and those who teach pilots are called instructors. So I followed all the instructions given to me for you this year.
This was a very personal revelation, but I am also moved to share it with you as we run for the year.
As you reflect on last year's success, failures, wins, and losses in every area of your life, also commit time to reflect on the biggest job on Earth: parenting.
We have a greater responsibility as parents to raise our children! The Bible was specific in saying that we are "gods."
The question we should constantly ask ourselves is:
Do we know what it takes to raise other gods?
Do we have the right skills to build these children into the gods they were created to be?
Unfortunately, this is one job you can't hire a contractor for, but if you are willing to put in the work, you will see results.
Parenting is one of the most difficult relationships to establish, but it has proven to be the most rewarding relationship on the planet.
In 2023, begin to see your parenting journey as a relationship.
But as you go on this journey, don't forget that:
Relationships are what build a home, not rules.
Relationships provide the opportunity to lead by example.
A relationship thrives on communication rather than commands.
Relationships thrive when they give everyone an opportunity to make outstanding contributions.
Relationships are about being a guide, not a tiger.
In 2023, begin to see parenting as a skill.
Without a genuine value for skills, we will do this the wrong way.
We can't continue to leave issues to chance and say, "I know God will do it." There is no substitute for skills (read Psalms 78:72 if you are a Christian).
This is not to minimize the efficacy of what God can do, but to remind us that God expects us to do the work with His grace available.
But the truth is that you don't fly a plane because of your spirituality; you fly it because of your skills.
Parenting requires knowledge, not just spirituality.
Living in the realm of Approaching any task in life with common sense is not wise and will limit you. ~David Oyedepo
Common knowledge will give you a common result.
In 2023, commit to reading and learning.
Wisdom is about being studious.
Wisdom is not concerned with what you believe to be correct, but with what has been proven to be correct.(David Oyedepo)
The quality of your life is a function of the quality of your references, the books you read, and the skills you acquire.
Wisdom is not in assumptions, and neither is parenting.
Every leader is a reader.
And every committed reader is that true leader, because it is the engagement of the senses of others that makes you make sense.
Every leader is a learner.
"When you stop learning, you are old, whether at 20 or at 80, and when you keep learning, you are young, whether at 20 or at 80." "The best you can do is keep your mind young." ~Henry Ford
In the words of Bishop David Oyedepo, "You are either building a library or you are building a mortuary without knowing."
As you step into the year, always remember that:
Parenting is a journey, not an end.
Parenting is not about tips and tricks; it's about the process.
Parenting is not about perfection but about performance.
Parenting is a learned skill, not some assumed position.
Parenting is leadership.
Parenting is a relationship.
Most importantly, never forget that you cannot give what you don't have.
Again, start today. After today, you've already lost four days out of the 365 days in 2023.
Congratulations as we step into the awesome year 2023!

Awesome!!!! My personal theme for the month is from that Psalm 78:72 - My parenting relationship is with true heart and skillful hand.....
You cant fly a plane because of your spirituality. You fly it because of your skill.
